I've been wanting to offer a First Aid class for awhile now. Unfortunately, it took the shock of a fellow rider Caleb's passing to get me off my seat and track one down. The Red Cross offers a 6 hour First Aid/CPR certified class that costs $50. If anyone is interested in that class, drop me a line and I'll set one up. In the mean time, here is a free (non-certified) class.

I know this is Laguna Seca Weekend, but for those of us staying in the area, I'd love to have you there. I'll be posting a ride in the Santa Monica Mountains for the morning, then we can ride over to the library as a group ... or you can just show up for the class.

You never know, you just may save your best friend's life.

I have 20 spots reserved and have also posted this on SoCal Sport Bikers:

"Ron Darby, instructor certified by the American Heart Association, will use mannequins to demonstrate First Aid for strokes, seizures, severe bleeding, shock, bone, joint, muscle and soft tissue injuries. He will discuss Good Samaritan laws and the legal aspects of providing First Aid. Please call for advance registration. No certificates will be issued."

Only members of this Group can view the location for this Meetup

76 Station at PCH & Sunset

One of my really good friends, Steve Hecker, just got a brand new bike! He's a great guy and rider that has been off the map for a several of months. He recently purchased a brand new bike (actually, his wife bought it for him - she's awesome), and he needs some company breaking it in.

Steve will need to keep it under wraps since he's still in the break in period. What does that mean to you? It means for most of us it may be our only chance to be faster than Steve! I'll be bringing my daughter along, so I'll be hanging back as well.

We'll meet at the 76 Station, and figure out what route to the Rock Store we want to take. From there .... the options multiply!

This ride is also posted on SoCal Sport Bikers. This is not a "girl only" ride.

See you there! ~Charlie

If you want to go on this ride, you need to be on a 250cc bike, or smaller ... Or ... be willing to only use 250cc's of your horsepower. This will be an early(-er) morning ride, perfect for those still getting used to their bike, or for anyone who just wants to cruise with no pressure.

Here is the route:

Meet up at the corner of Overland & National, Mobil Gas Station, east/south of the I-10 frwy at 9:00a, leave at 9:15a.

Travel I-10 West, to PCH and go north

Stop off at the 76 Station at PCH & Sunset, Meet up at 9:45, leave at 10a

PCH North 15 miles to Kanan Dume Road

Turn right onto Kanan Dume, 6 miles to Mulholland Highway

Turn right onto Mulholland Highway, 3 miles to the historical Rock Store. There will be some twisties, but we can take our time.

After we rest a bit, check on the pace of the group, and see where everyone stands. If you're up to it, we'll conitnue on to Neptune's Net on PCH, or you can call it a day, and head home. If you decide to continue to Neptune's, we'll go ...

West on Mulholland Hwy, turns into Encinal Canyon Road

Right onto Lechusa Road

Left at Decker Canyon Road

Right at PCH, traveling north to Neptune?s Net where we can grab something to eat, and hang out for a little bit. From here we can go our separate ways.

It's about 50 miles in all, with at least two stops

THE LA MARATHON IS ON SUNDAY. I'D LIKE TO AVOID DOWNTOWN, SO WE'RE GOING TO MEET UP WITH THE REST OF THE GROUP AT 1-5 & LAKE HUGHES ROAD. WE'LL MEET AT 10:30A, AND LEAVE AT 10:45A. NOT MUCH OF A TIME DIFFERENCE, BUT THE ROUTE HAS CHANGED SLIGHTLY. FEEL FREE TO HIT THE ROUTE ANYWHERE YOU WANT. SEE YOU ON THE ROAD! ~Charlie

We'll be meeting up with the SoCal Sportbike Riders. You will find their post below:

I'm going to by-pass their breakfast in LaVerne, and plan on meeting up with them at the Shell Station located at I-210 & ACH. They are scheduled to leave the Shell around 11a, and we'll follow the group directions from there.

I'll be at the Chevron gas station at the corner of Overland and National, LA 90034, on the south/east side of the 10-frwy, at about 10:15a, planning on departing by 10:30a in order to make it to I-210 & ACH. It'll be a quick paced ride and we'll need to leave on time in order to make the meet up point.
